Pulsed extraction of ionization from helium buffer gas

چکیده

The migration of intense ionization created in helium buffer gas under the influence of applied electric fields is considered. First the chemical evolution of the ionization created by fast heavyion beams is described. Straight forward estimates of the lifetimes for charge exchange indicate a clear suppression of charge exchange during ion migration in low pressure helium. Then selfconsistent calculations of the migration of the ions in the electric field of a gas-filled cell at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) using a Particle-In-Cell computer code are presented. The results of the calculations are compared to measurements of the extracted ion current caused by beam pulses injected into the NSCL gas cell.

Study of laser ablation using nano-second laser pulses

In this paper, the laser ablation process based on the irradiation of nanosecond pulsed lasers on a copper target surface in the presence of Helium gas is studied. The dynamical behaviors of the generated plasma in the helium gas and evaporated copper at the atmospheric pressure are examined using a laser pulse, laser wavelength of and intensity of 7×1010W/cm2. A one-dimensional thermal model ...

The buffer-gas cell and the extraction RFQ for SHIPTRAP

SHIPTRAP is a new ion trap system for high-precision mass measurements of transuranium recoil-ions from the SHIP facility at GSI. The system consists of a buffer-gas cell to thermalise the incoming ions, an extraction system to separate the ions from the buffer gas, an RFQ buncher to cool and accumulate the ions and a tandem Penning-trap system for isobaric purification and high-precision mass ...

Evaluation of the pulsed discharge helium ionization detector for the analysis of hydrogen and methane in breath.

Under the appropriate separation conditions the pulsed discharge helium ionization detector (PDHID) was used to detect hydrogen and methane separated from the matrix components of human breath samples. The sensitivity of this method is over an order of magnitude better than published methods using a flame ionization detector (FID) and a thermal conductivity detector (TCD), and has the further a...

Noname manuscript No. (will be inserted by the editor)

Gas stopping is becoming the method of choice for converting beams of rare isotopes obtained via projectile fragmentation and in-flight separation into low-energy beams. These beams allow ISOL-type experiments , such as mass measurements with traps or laser spectroscopy, to be performed with projectile fragmentation products. Current gas stopper systems for high-energy beams are based on linear...

Determination of Synthetic Phenolic Antioxidants in Biological Fluids Based on Air-assisted Liquid-liquid Microextraction Followed by Gas Chromatography-flame Ionization Detection

An air–assisted liquid–liquid microextraction method for the extraction and preconcentration of trace amounts of some synthetic phenolic antioxidants in biological fluids followed by their determination by gas chromatography–flame ionization detection has been reported. In this method the target analytes are extracted into a few microliters of carbon tetrachloride (extraction solvent) from an a...
